2024 Year in Review

2024 was a major turning point for me. In addition to showing work all year at the Hamilton Gallery, I had my first solo exhibition at Found Studio in NE Baltimore, I participated in four regional art festivals (and won first place in my category at one of them), and by the end of it all I had found buyers for 18 (eighteen!!) original paintings, not to mention a few sketches and dozens of prints. It’s all led me to think that I’m not entirely off my rocker for considering my artistic life as more of a second vocation than “just a hobby.”

Scroll down for some highlights.

March 2024 - solo show at Found Studio

Kacey and her staff hosted a lovely reception, and it was great to see so many people from the neighborhood and greater Baltimore come out to share a drink and chat about art.

Some smaller pieces. I had I think 24 pieces up total.

ArtScape and other fests

I’d wanted to participate in ArtScape since I moved to Baltimore in 2014. This was my first outdoor art fest, and also the wildest. Set up took place during the final blasts of a heatwave, and then we got torrential rains the first two evenings (which twice led to a river of flowing through all of our tents). Despite the chaotic weather, the turnout was fantastic, and I got to chat about art with all kinds of interesting people around town.

The Bel Air, MD art fest was more subdued, but I was surprised to be awarded first place in the painting category (I didn’t even know there was an award until the jury showed up). The ArtFest at Ann Marie Sculpture Garden in Solomons, MD and Art on the Avenue in Alexandria VA were both lots of fun too.

Art with new homes

I was humbled and honored that so many people decided that they want my work in their homes. Most sales were recent work, but I sold a couple going back more than a decade. Here are some of them:

“Three Cats” (2018, 18”x24”); “Yellow Hydrant” (2023, 5”x7”); “Teal Skates” (2024, 3.75”x7”)

“Leipzig Loading Dock” (2019, 8”x10”); “Succulent” (2023, 4”x6”); “Shoulder Study” (2024, 7.5”x12”)

“One and Two-Thirds Figs” (2022, 16”x20”); “Quad Life no. 1” (2021, 7.5”x12”); Late (2018, 16”x20”)

“Born District, Barcelona” (2012, 16”x20”); “Three Bicycles” (2011, 24”x36”); “Behind the Charles” (2022, 6”x12”)

“Aloe” (2023, 12”x12”); “Orange Barricade” (2024, 4”x6”); “Blue Door” (2023, 5”x7”); “Creme de Violette” (2023, 7.5”x12”)

More to come in 2025!

Ever since I submitted by Fall semester grades in December, I’ve been using every available hour to paint. I hope to make this one a very prolific year. Stay tuned!
